Teacher Appreciation Week

Description
Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated during the first full week of May each year. In 2025, it will be from May 5 to May 9. Teacher Appreciation Day, also called National Teacher Day, falls on the Tuesday of Teacher Appreciation Week, which is May 6, 2025. This week is a time to show gratitude to educators for their hard work and dedication. Teachers play a vital role in shaping young minds and preparing students for the future. The week is an opportunity for students, parents, administrators, and the community to express their appreciation for teachers' contributions. History of Teacher Appreciation Week: The idea for a day to honor teachers originated in the early 1940s. In 1953, Eleanor Roosevelt persuaded Congress to proclaim a National Teacher Day. Congress declared March 7, 1980, as National Teacher Day (for that year only). The National PTA established Teacher Appreciation Week as the first full week of May in 1984. In 1985, the NEA voted to make the Tuesday of that week National Teacher Day.
